MWare, a provider of end-to-end productivity solutions, has brought advanced operational insights to its ERP clients through the development and implementation of a top-pedigree business intelligence (BI) add-on. 

Having identified a need to update and streamline reporting and analytics for MWare's ERP clients, CEO Mich Martins chose the highly rated vendor-integrator combination of Yellowfin BI and AIGS Insights as its first development partners, citing their "advanced technical and project skills and BI platform".

The need

Martins says to meet a common need in the ERP space – standardised reports – the MWare-assembled team built an 'Operational Insights' app or connector, which the company will offer to its customer base and other ERP providers – to offer to their customers."

Martins lists many issues with traditional reporting solutions offered by ERP providers:

"To summarise, they are dated; complex; require specific technical skills; and don't export to Excel in workable formats," he says. "We needed something more agile, dynamic and easy for users to discover a deeper level of information."

The competitive landscape

Having selected its partners, MWare opted to make the add-on available to its customers on a monthly subscription model, says Martins.

"We'll be offering clients a single Report Writer and four Report Viewer licences, with the ability to either add more Writer and Viewer licences or opt for the complete product."

"We sat down with them to understand their specific 'Operational Insight' requirements, and then mapped out and developed the 'Operational Insights' front-end."

Martins says development, implementation and testing took less than three months, and the first of 23 MWare customers is scheduled to go live early July.

He comments that once a customer knows their data, and has done basic front-end training, it's easy and fun to play around and customise the reporting using the authored views within the BI platform, allowing for the elusive 'self-service' BI vendors tend to lead with in their marketing.

Broad audience

Martin says what is revolutionary with the 'operational insights' solution is that it gives a broad audience of decision makers access to information that before was only available to top-end management.

"We showed the 'Operational Insights' solution and various ratios to our customer's financial manager, and as soon as we opened the screen the first thing he said was wow – they can definitely see the value this will give them," explains Martins.

This includes:

  • Powerful out-of-the-box reporting
  • Alerts to changes as they happen
  • Embedded actions
  • Contextual knowledge (data storytelling)
  • Greater customer insights in real time

Wider client base

Martins says having top BI functionality sets them apart in the ERP market. "We will be marketing this product to our own customers as well as other ERP providers, to help them enhance their customer experience."

He says the ERP industry stands to benefit as a result. With MWare bringing this solution to market and using embedded analytics to create this app, it changes the company's role and could really elevate it in the industry.

"By making the 'Operational Insights' solution available on a subscription basis, we are widening access to BI at the price of reporting."

Already, a Phase 2 is in planning for operational insights in other areas of MWare's business and offerings.
